U.S. consumer spending picking up, gasoline prices a burden

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. retail sales rose moderately in April as rising gasoline prices cut into discretionary spending, but consumer spending appeared on track to accelerate after slowing sharply in the first quarter.
